The mission of the Timberline Veterinary Blood Bank is to make sure that dogs and cats in need in Puget Sound have access to high quality blood products.  Dogs and cats may need blood if they are hit by a car, get into rat poison, have cancer, or have a blood disease.  Just like people, dogs and cats have blood types and need blood specific for their species and type.  The availability of blood is made possible by volunteer dog and cat donors (and their families) who truly give the gift of life.

Do you have a dog or cat who would like to help us SAVE lives? Or know a friend or family member with the perfect pet who would like to SAVE lives?

Eligible DOGS are:

  • 1-6 years of age (to start in the program)
  • At least 50 lbs.
  • Current on vaccinations
  • Not on any long-term medications (flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives are fine)
  • Never had a transfusion
  • Treat and toy motivated dogs usually love being donors!

Most dogs donate with no sedation and previous donor families have told us their dogs love coming to donate (the treats and toys make it worth it)

Eligible CATS are:

  • 1-6 years of age
  • At least 10 lbs.
  • Current on vaccinations
  • Never had a transfusion
  • Not on any medications (flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives are fine)
  • INDOOR ONLY living with other INDOOR ONLY cats
  • **Cats are sedated for donations**

Benefits to you and your pet (in addition to helping save lives) include:

  • Free yearly blood work
  • Toys and treats
  • If your donor pet was ever to need a transfusion, the in-house blood products would be at no cost.
