Become a Pet Blood Donor and Save Lives

All pets are incredible, but some become true heroes by donating blood to help others in critical need. The Timberline Veterinary Blood Bank ensures that dogs and cats in Puget Sound have access to lifesaving blood products—but we can’t do it without the help of generous pets and their families.
Pets may need blood transfusions for serious injuries, poisonings, cancer treatments, or blood diseases—just like people. And because dogs and cats have different blood types, maintaining a reliable supply is essential. By volunteering as a donor, your pet can be the reason another pet gets a second chance at life.
Canine Eligibility Requirements:
- 1-6 years of age (to start in the program)
- At least 50 pounds
- Current on vaccinations
- Never had a transfusion
- Not on any long-term medications (flea, tick, and heartworm preventives are fine)
Treat and toy motivated dogs usually love being donors! Most dogs donate with no sedation and previous donor families have told us their dogs love coming to donate (the treats and toys make it worth it)!

Feline Eligibility Requirements
- 1-6 years of age
- At least 10 pounds
- Current on vaccinations
- Never had a transfusion
- Not on any long-term medications (flea, tick, and heartworm preventives are fine)
- Cats must live indoors and with other indoor-only cats to prevent disease exposure
Because cats are more sensitive to handling, all feline donors are sedated for donations to keep them relaxed and stress-free.
Perks of Being a Pet Blood Donor
- Free yearly blood work to monitor your pet’s health
- Toys and treats to make the experience positive
- No-cost transfusions if your donor pet ever needs one
